هذا الكتاب يناقش موضوع الجيوبولتكس، بوصفه فرعًا معرفيًا يهتم بفهم العوامل الجغرافية والخرائط والأحداث وتأثيرها في السياسة وفي صياغة الاستراتيجيات التي تحقق مصالح الدول وتُعزّز مكانتها إقليميًا ودوليًا. ويفرّق الكتاب بالتفصيل بين الجيوبولتكس وكلٍّ من الواقعية، والجغرافيا السياسية، والجيوستراتيجية. ويدرس النظريات والمفاهيم التي قدّمها مؤسسو الجيوبولتكس، والاستراتيجيات التي بُنيت على أساسها؛ مثل فردريك راتزل، ورودولف كيلين، وألفريد ماهان، وهالفورد ماكيندر، وأشعيا باومان، وكارل هاوسُفر، ونيكولاس سبايكمان. كما يحلل المفاهيم والتطبيقات الجيوسياسية المعاصرة؛ فثمة مفكرون وسياسيون تأثروا بنظريات الجيوبولتكس وطوروا مفاهيم أخرى تمثلت في سياسات دول كبرى منذ الحرب العالمية الثانية وحتى الربع الأول من القرن الحادي والعشرين. لذا، يدرس الكتاب تطبيقات ذلك في كلٍّ من الجيوبولتكس الأميركي، والجيوبولتكس الروسي، والجيوبولتكس الفرنسي، والممارسات الجيوسياسية الصينية، ومحاولات ألمانيا تأدية أدوار جيوسياسية من خلال نفوذها في الاتحاد الأوروبي، والتطلعات الجيوسياسية البريطانية. ويناقش أيضًا بتوسّع الجيوبولتكس النقدي، الذي ظهر في عصر العولمة وانتشار الشبكات وتضاؤل احتكار النخب والسياسيين للمعرفة الجغرافية والسياسية، ومن ثمّ بروز فواعل جديدة تنقد ممارسات جيوسياسية عدوانية. ويوضح الكتاب أهمية المعرفة الجيوسياسية، والموقف من الجيوبولتكس، وكيفية التعامل معه.
يعدّ هذا الكتاب الأوّل في العالم العربي حول موضوع الجيوبولتكس، من حيث نشأته، وتعريفاته، وسياقه، ومفكروه، ونظرياته، ونقده، واستراتيجيات الدول الكبرى التي بُنيت على أساس مفاهيمه، ومدى تأثيرها في العالم ومناطقه ودوله حتى الوقت الراهن 

 

 

This book discusses geopolitics in a broad context from its inception in the late nineteenth century to the first quarter of the present century. It focuses on its definitions, goals, unique features and basic components. It examines its relationship to other close disciplines such as realism in international relations, political geography and geostrategy and makes obvious distinctions between them. It studies the geopolitical thought and theories from its founding scholars, such as Friedrich Ratzel, Rudolf Kjellen, Alfred Mahan, Halford Mackinder, Isaiah Bauman, Karl Haushofer, and Nicholas Spykman. It also analyzes contemporary geopolitical concepts and strategies that influenced world politics from World War II until the present time. This includes their applications in American, Russian, Chinese, and French geopolitics, as well as the new ‘Global Britain’ agenda’s aspirations, and Germany’s new geopolitical roles through its leverage in the European Union. The book also discusses Critical Geopolitics, which emerged in the era of globalization, the spread of networks and the diminishing monopoly of elites and politicians over geographical and political knowledge, and thus the emergence of new actors who criticize aggressive geopolitical practices. 
All in all, the book constitutes an integrated study of geopolitics in terms of its origins, context, scholars, theories, criticism, strategies based on its concepts, and its relationship with politics at the present time.
